Prioritizing Patient Needs:

Cash-Based Services at Zenlife Physiotherapy & Wellness

Cash-based physiotherapy is a model of service in which physiotherapists, chiropractors, and registered massage therapists accept direct payment from patients instead of relying on insurance reimbursement.

At Zenlife Physiotherapy & Wellness, we have implemented this model for the following reasons:

  • Improved Patient-Therapist Relationship: By eliminating the insurance company arbitrarily stopping your rehabilitation or making the process unnecessarily complicated, the therapist and patient can focus on what matters most, your results!
  • Control Over Services: It allows physiotherapists, chiropractors, and registered massage therapists to determine the type and frequency of treatment based on patient needs rather than what an insurance company is willing to cover. It gives the therapist more freedom to provide the best possible care.
  • Simpler Billing: The billing process is greatly simplified without insurance companies in the mix. Therapists can spend less time dealing with paperwork, claims submissions, and follow-ups and more time helping you get the results you deserve!
  • Price Transparency: In a cash-based model, patients know upfront the cost of their treatment. This can lead to fewer surprises and better financial planning for patients.
  • Lower Overall Costs: Because treatment costs aren’t inflated to meet insurance reimbursement rates, the actual cost of services is often lower in a cash-based model. Research has shown that cash-based services typically requires fewer visits than traditional insurance-based models, resulting in less cost to the patient.

However, it’s important to remember that this model isn’t without drawbacks. For example, some patients may prefer to utilize their insurance coverage for such services if available, which is why we also provide that service.

As with any healthcare decision, it’s essential for patients to carefully consider their needs, finances, and insurance coverage when deciding between insurance-based and cash-based services.

Enjoy Direct Access and One-on-One Care

At Zenlife Physiotherapy & Wellness, we believe in the power of choice and flexibility when it comes to your health. Direct Access is an avenue that empowers you, the patient, to take charge of your care and make decisions that align with your unique needs and goals.

But what exactly is Direct Access?

Direct Access is a policy that allows patients to see physiotherapists, chiropractors, and registered massage therapists without a physician’s referral. This means you can start your journey to wellness sooner and often with fewer visits. This approach saves you time and alleviates financial burdens associated with long-term care.

One of the prime benefits of Direct Access is that it eliminates the need for insurance authorization. This is particularly advantageous for our cash-based practice at Zenlife Physiotherapy & Wellness. Here, you have the flexibility to choose your treatment plan without the constraints of insurance company mandates. You decide what you want and who you want help from – it’s healthcare on your terms!

Another cornerstone of our practice is one-on-one care. Every cash-based session at Zenlife Physiotherapy & Wellness is designed around your unique needs, ensuring you get our undivided attention. This approach helps us to focus on your specific goals and monitor your progress closely, resulting in more effective treatment and faster recovery.

Direct Billing

Physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, and orthotics services are usually covered by most extended health benefit plans. Check your plan for your coverage details such as maximum coverage amount for each service type per benefit year, what percentage of the service charge is covered and if a doctor’s referral is needed for reimbursement. For your convenience, we offer direct billing to most insurance companies. If direct billing does not apply to your coverage, you will be required to pay the full-service amount at the time of your visit and we will provide you with official receipts that you can submit to your coverage provider for reimbursement.

Motor Vehicle Insurance

If you were injured in an insured motor vehicle accident within the last 10 days, your treatments are covered by your motor vehicle insurance policy. Treatments under this condition are referred to as ‘within protocol”. They are billed directly to your motor vehicle insurer with no out-of-pocket cost to you. This eligibility is for up to 90 days or for a total of 21 treatments following the date of the accident.

If you are seeking treatments after 90 days has elapsed since your accident or if you have received treatment within the protocol and require further treatments, or need treatment for more serious injuries. These claims will go through what is referred to as section B coverage. Prior approval from your motor vehicle insurance company is required in this instance. If applicable, you will be required to pay first from your extended health benefits with the rest of the payment covered by your motor vehicle insurance.

Remember to bring along the following information on your first visit to our clinic:

  • Policy Number/Claim Number
  • Adjuster ‘s Name and contact number
  • Date of Injury

Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB)

Approved work-related injuries are usually billed directly to WCB. On your first visit, we will provide you with a full physiotherapy assessment and treatment and we will send a report to WCB.

WCB will normally approve up to 21 treatment visits over six weeks. This may be longer if you have had surgery following the work-related injury or you are following a specific surgical protocol. If your claim is denied by WCB, you do have the option to pay out of pocket or through your extended health benefit if applicable.

Self Pay

You may have to make part of your payment not fully covered by your health-benefit coverage (referred to as co-pay). For patients who do not have or have maxed out their health-benefit coverage, we do offer options of payment by debit card and major credit cards. We do not accept personal cheques at this time.
